Dream Sequence
Do you ever have one of those dreams where you find that particular thing that fascinates you (yarn, clothes, expensive purses, gizmos from Radio Shack, whatever) and it is on sale, not just any sale, but so cheap that you can grab that thing by the handfuls and take it to the cash register and then load it in your car and take it home where you caress it in a Gollumish sort of way?
You don't? Oh, well, I guess it's just me. Anyway, the point is that I lived out that dream sequence today and there was no waking up! It really happened!
I'll set the scene for you: I decided to take Son1 to the thrift store on the way home from the doctor to see if we could pick up some Star Wars books for him on the cheap as a treat for dealing with a nasty virus (whoa, could I put any more prepositions in that sentence?). So, we arrive at the lovely store and he peruses the book selection while I decide to take the smallest of peeks at the craft corner.
Be still my heart, just the memory of it is making me hyperventilate. . . over in the corner is a plastic bin full of what looks to be patterns. I play it cool and pick the top one up. A vintage doll pattern followed by more craft patterns and more and more and more. At this point I just start digging and grabbing. These patterns were from the 60s and 70s and in AMAZING condition, lots of them were ones I had seen on expensive pattern resale websites, but these were all 5 cents each.
Not to overshare, but midway through my this euphoric experience I realized that in leaning over the box the top of my undies were showing in the back and I DIDN'T EVEN CARE! Such an occurrence would usually have caused me to stand up and move on so as not to make a spectacle of myself with the undie elastic showing, but no, I was on a mission to get every single cool craft pattern in that box - modesty be damned!
This woman, this amazing crafty woman whose stash had been donated to my local thrift store, had my taste - exactly. That pattern, that one from 1977 that I was obsessed with and ordered off of eBay? She had it, and she made the doll too because the pattern is used. 1940 Cat pattern? check. Paddington Bear pattern? check. So many patterns I can't remember what I bought in my frenzy, but I know they were cool? check.
I will post pictures of my favorite finds tomorrow when the light is better for photography. Just in case you are not that intrigued by my tale of materialism and hoarding, you will be glad to know that Son1 got 2 Star Wars books and sat next to me reading away, unaware that I was about to expire from the excitement of living my dream.
