Running Away from the Germs

This weekend wasn't one of those full of family fun and crafting. It was more of a nurse maid/harried lawyer sort of a weekend in which I tried to take care of the sickies and meet my impending work deadlines. The highlight of the weekend came on Saturday morning when I tagged along with Red Dog and ran the 8k course at Rim Rock Farm. This photo does not do justice to this amazing cross country course. There were killer hills, covered bridges, ponds, and wide flat lanes with no roots to trip you up.

The course isn't usually open to the public, but this group has some connections and gets to go out once a year. It turned out that almost everyone did the 5k course, so of the very few who did the 8k, I was the very last. This was fine as I just went into Pollyanna mode and pretended I was so very far ahead of everyone else that there was nobody to challenge my lead. One of my strengths as a runner is that I can keep going on and on, just don't ask me to go much faster than your average power scooter at Target.

I'm so grateful Jeremy booted me out the door and made me go on this adventure. I didn't really know the people I was to go with and was feeling shy about the whole thing, but I'm so glad he didn't let my shyness keep me from experiencing such an amazing run through the woods.

Carol, this entry is perfect timing for a similar experience of mine that I will appropriately call: "Running from Unemployment". I hit some off-road trails this afternoon, after spending a morning in our dungeon (aka- basement) searching for jobs. What an escape!!! Job or no job, I am relishing in the glorious fact that I went on a fabulous trail run today, complete with cool mountain air and panoramic views of the Rockies... while the rest of the 8-5 working world slaved away in their cubicles for yet another grueling 8 hours. hee, hee :-)

Dana-

You have to enjoy your freedom while you can! Don't think of this as a period of unemployment, think of it as time to explore your new surroundings.
